As sustainability topics evolved in the EU and customer demands changed, so did the focus of this project. But, with the blockchain system in place, a solid foundation was set in order to adjust to the changing needs.
We started to pilot the system, passing material data along small supply chains. For instance with Arçelik, they are not only an OEM, but they also mold their own parts and assemble their own products. So there were only two companies in our first pilot: Covestro and Arçelik tracing the plastic back cover of one of their flat-screen televisions. This eventually evolved into larger, more involved pilots.
As the project evolved, it became obvious that OEMs were in control of the supply chain. The downstream partners would need to react to the demands of the OEM. Because of this, there were two options available:

Add a data package to physical material sales at a premium
I proposed the concept of creating 'data packages' to be sold alongside physical materials to Covestro’s sales teams across various business units. While not a full digital twin, these data packages would consist of critical information either already available or essential for supply chain partners. As part of the innovation team, my role was to develop and present the concept, ensuring it aligned with the company's broader sustainability and market goals.

The project helped position Covestro as a leader in Sustainable Tech, which in itself added value and aligned with their mission statement. We ran many PR campaigns along with our collaboration partners like Circularise, Porsche, Arçelik, EVBox, Shell and Philips.
I was the primary advocate for the blockchain-based system, which led to numerous speaking engagements where I articulated its technical, systematic and financial benefits. As the face of Covestro’s sustainability technology efforts, I engaged with thousands of people across the EU and US, sharing the company's vision.
By setting Covestro on the path to both monetize its innovation and solidify its leadership in sustainable tech, I helped prepare them for the rising demand for Digital Product Passports and material data transparency.
